B Corp Conversations: Edward Bulmer Natural Paint

At Maison Mirabeau, we believe business should be a force for good. As a proud B Corp certified company, we’re dedicated to balancing purpose and profit, making choices that benefit both people and the planet. This B Corp Month, we’re celebrating by joining the conversation with Edward Bulmer Natural Paint, a like-minded brand committed to sustainability and positive change.

Edward has spent the last 35 years working in some of Britain’s finest buildings. He is a leading interior designer, architectural historian and ‘colourman’, renowned for restoring our beautiful heritage buildings, bringing his expert knowledge to conservation at the same time as lending his natural design flair to the creation of new spaces for modern living.

Having himself been frustrated by the lack of natural paints on the market where one wasn’t compromising on colour choice, quality and coverage.  Edward set up his natural paint company with his wife Emma a few years ago, with a very particular mission: ‘To produce high-quality paints that look beautiful, protect buildings and avoid polluting our environment’.

Jeany: What made you join the B Corp movement?

Edward: There are well over 300 million registered companies in the world – only 4000 of these are B Corp, half of them in the UK. This is a small club that we want to be part of!

Tell us a little more about which changes you put in place to be a business that treads more lightly?

We have commissioned LCAs for our paint products and have engaged an independent assessor of our impact, Circular Ecology. We are also looking at ways to persuade B Corp that we are an innovative company with the mission to take acrylics out of the house paint sector.

What did your employees think of your initiative in this space?

Our company exists to fulfil the above mission, so they were happy to hear that we had achieved B Corp status, but not surprised.

What are you looking forward to launching in the upcoming year?

We’re excited to launch Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for our paints. These certifications provide transparent data on the environmental impact of our products, from raw material sourcing to production and beyond. It’s an important step in our commitment to sustainability and helping customers make more informed, eco-friendly choices.

How do you tell the consumer to look out for your sustainable paint products?

Events, a London shop, Instagram and digital, using the B Corp branding where we can!

Would love to share a glass of rosé with….
