The First Ever Cotignac Rosé Festival

About a year ago I slowly began talking to the Mayors office about hosting a bijou village event, celebrating rosé and the summer spirit that’s so unique in our beautiful village of Cotignac.  The idea is certainly not totally original and a handful of other villages host similar fêtes, yet we had never really done one in season and uniting all the local producers, as well as us as the only négociant.

Though we got off to slightly rocky start with a lot of different views on what to do and how to do it, we eventually managed to unite behind a single concept. The event would be held in mid season to give us the best chance to meet our international as well as local customers and it would also bring all of us together behind one single Rosé bar.  The novelty was that we would all be pouring (and talking about) each others rosés surrounded by some producers of other speciality products, as well as our regular night market lining the road up to the main square.

Nick Boot, an internationally renowned DJ and good friend agreed to entertain us for this inaugural evening and to get everyone on their feet after a few glasses of good rosé and artisan burgers, charcuterie and deserts.

I think the pictures show what a fantastic evening we had and the whole village was dancing away to Nick’s beat ’till late.   A lot of people told us how much they loved the joint event and appreciated that we had all come together to celebrate the product we love, in spite of our different approaches.  For us in the business of rosé it meant a carefree moment enjoying each other’s company and hopefully working together on occasion in the future.

We will let you know about next year’s Rosé Festival well in advance and hope some of you can be there to party the night away again.
