How to Enjoy The Perfect Day In Nice

Known as the unofficial capital of the sparkling Côte d’Azur, the charming city of Nice is the perfect place to visit. Boasting a year-round mild Mediterranean climate, with a plethora of things to do, eat and see, read on to discover our suggestions for the perfect day on the French Riviera.

Marché aux Fleurs

Start your morning at the famous Nice flower market, locally known as the Marché aux Fleurs and situated near the beautiful Old Port in Vieux Nice. Local flower vendors have been selling des fleurs to market-goers for more than 100 years.

Today, locals and tourists alike wander through the brightly coloured stalls, boasting bountiful displays of fresh flowers, sumptuous locally-sourced fruits and seasonal vegetables. The friendly French vendors always offer generous samples, so it’s worth a trip! Traditional of the region, a must-have is the chickpea-flour based ‘socca’, which is cooked in olive oil and eaten fresh off the skillet. You can meander around the quaint stalls and pick yourself a gift; whether it’s hand-crafted soap, freshly made tapenade or a Provençal bunch of dried lavender.

Le Palais d’Osier

Whilst in the centre of town, pop into the charming ‘Le Palais d’Osier’ located on 3 Rue de la Préfecture 06000 Nice, to pick up an artisanal handwoven basket. Here you’ll find an array of hand-braided tote bags, hand bags, wallets and paniers – displayed from floor to ceiling. The charming owner lovingly hand makes them herself, and will happily assist you in making your selection. Whether you’re after a classic piece or something more eccentric, if you can braid it – you’ll find it! The perfect place to find your sartorial summer companion.

Marinette Kitchen

In Old Town Nice, you’ll never be short of restaurants and fine dining. You’ll have worked up an appetite after your morning market stroll – and you’re only a stones throw to one of Nice’s best brunch spots: Marinette Kitchen. Since first opening its doors in the summer of 2017 by owners Audrey and Marc, Marinette Kitchen has fast become a Nice institution and go-to bakery for locals.

Set in an aesthetically pleasing melee of beautifully minimal lights, pretty parasols and flowers, Marinette is nothing short of a quintessentially French eatery. Offering a scrumptiously varied menu; our favourites are their famous burger, escalope Milanese and pancakes. Marinette Kitchen’s pâtisserie shop also has a stall in the market, or you can pop to their cute shop front and grab yourself some sweet treats – their light and fluffy choux buns are truly delicious!

Les Arches

After indulging in brunch, head back through Vieux Nice, one of the city’s most beautiful and historically significant areas, towards the port. Architectural fans will appreciate wandering through the old town’s baroque buildings; a picture postcard representation of the style.

As you wander back towards the beautiful waterfront, take a trip through the historical Arches leading to the Promenade des Anglais. Once a busy trading port founded in 350BC by the Greeks of Massilia, walls were quickly built around the region, as well as the city to protect it from invasion by enemies – with some of its incredible historic structures still remaining today. With crystal azure waters beyond the Arches, this is one of the most instagrammable spots in Nice.

Babel Babel

Finish off your day at Babel Babel, an idyllic spot for an aperitif, situated right on the seafront – you will have unobstructed views of the crystal clear med. Situated in a small ex-fisherman’s house on the Promenade and hailed as the coolest terrace in Nice, Babel Babel is the perfect spot for people watching! Owners Olivier Daniel and Kevin Lalanne have transformed this former fishing cabana on the trendy Promenade des Anglais into a chic, beachside bar, with barstools on the balcony that offer uninterrupted views of the beach.

It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a sundowner with your loved ones. We recommend the Chicken Liver Toast with pumpkin seed praline, orange jelly and mushroom carpaccio; or the Lentil Tabbouleh with celery, apple, walnuts and kale.
